Mitsubishi offers a new look at the next-generation Pajero and its digital off-road display
Bucharest, June 2026 – Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi has officially confirmed the return of the Pajero model to the scene, after a 5-year break that left a huge gap in the pure-blooded off-road vehicle segment. While fans around the world eagerly await the official launch scheduled for this fall, the manufacturer continues to fuel public interest. Recently, Mitsubishi published a new official image that reveals fascinating details about the cabin and on-board technology.
Digital Nostalgia: Reinterpreting the Famous "Multi Meter"
Exactly one month after the first teaser, the new image reveals a direct reference to the brand's historical heritage: the digital Multi Meter display. Fans of Pajero models from the 80s and 90s will surely remember the additional analogue instrument cluster positioned above the centre console, which indicated the car's orientation and inclination.
In the new generation, this concept is completely reinvented in digital format. The screen will be intelligently integrated into the instrument cluster or central multimedia display, providing modern graphics and essential data for off-road adventures:
- Altitude and digital compass;
- Lateral roll angle (left-right tilt);
- Pitch indicator (front-to-back tilt of the vehicle);
- Ambient temperature;
- Real-time torque distribution between axles (left-right).
"These features allow drivers to constantly monitor vehicle dynamics and road conditions, providing added confidence and control whether navigating steep slopes, rocky paths or muddy roads," brand officials note.
Under the hood: Robust utility genes via L200
While full technical details remain partly shrouded in mystery, one thing is certain: the new Pajero promises to be a true off-roader, not just an urban SUV. Mitsubishi has confirmed that the model will ditch the monocoque structure of the past in favor of a classic ladder-frame architecture (separate chassis), taken from the new generation of the L200 pick-up (known as the Triton in markets outside Europe).
This technical decision guarantees excellent torsional rigidity and durability in extreme conditions. In terms of engines and capabilities, industry specialists expect:
- A 2.4-liter twin-turbo diesel unit, capable of delivering generous reserves of torque at low revs;
- A modern 8-speed automatic transmission;
- Top-of-the-line Super Select 4WD-II all-wheel drive system;
- A towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg and a fording depth of approximately 800 mm.
Launch and price estimation for the Romanian market
The official global launch of the new Mitsubishi Pajero will take place this autumn. The first units for European customers are expected to arrive in dealerships towards the end of this year or early next year.
What price can we expect in Romania? Positioned as the flagship of the Japanese brand, the new Pajero will enter into a direct battle with established legends, especially with the new generation Toyota Land Cruiser 250 and the Ford Bronco. Considering the technology brought on board and the transition to a robust, high-mass chassis, the prices will reflect the new premium-utility status of the car:
- Estimated starting price (base equipment): approximately €60,000 – €65,000 (VAT included), a competitive value that should attract customers from the traditional off-road segment.
- Top-of-the-range versions (richly equipped): Variants with advanced assistance packages, leather interior trim and state-of-the-art traction management technologies will most likely climb into the €78,000 – €87,000 range (including VAT).
With this launch, Mitsubishi is not only reclaiming a historic emblem, but it also promises to offer an extremely capable and technologically advanced alternative in an automotive world where authentic off-road vehicles are becoming a rarity.
