Plastic speed record: New Lego Technic Koenigsegg smashes the charts at Goodwood with 111 km/h
The worlds of hypercars and plastic building blocks have collided in spectacular fashion. Lego and Swedish manufacturer Koenigsegg have joined forces to launch a new miniature engineering gem. To celebrate the partnership, the two brands have created a working, life-size replica that has shattered the old speed record for a Lego build, reaching no less than 111 km/h on the legendary Goodwood circuit.
Historic performance at Goodwood: 1.8 tonnes of Lego pieces launched onto the track
To mark the launch of the new commercial set, engineers built a life-size monster. The result is an incredible machine, assembled from 327,906 Lego pieces, with a total weight of approximately 1.8 tons. The project swallowed up no less than 9,400 hours of intense design and construction work.
The giant model was tested to the limit on the Goodwood circuit. At the wheel was Markus Lundh, the official Koenigsegg test driver, who managed to push the plastic construction to an astronomical speed of 111 km/h.
This performance simply shatters the old world record for a Lego model, which was "only" 50 km/h.
Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Megacar: The New King of the Technic Ultimate Series
For enthusiasts who don't have room in their garage for a 1.8-ton replica, the collaboration brings to market the Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Megacar set, the newest member of the exclusive Lego Technic Ultimate Car Concept series. The model joins already established automotive legends in Lego format, such as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Bugatti Chiron, Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, Ferrari Daytona and the newly launched McLaren P1.
The scale model will be available for order from the beginning of July, at a price of 450 euros.
Technical details and extreme complexity
The package contains 4,104 pieces and is clearly aimed at collectors and those who are passionate about complex engineering. Lego did not skimp on the details and accurately replicated the iconic elements of the Swedish constructor:
- Engine: A V8 engine replicated in detail.
- Transmission: A functional gearbox with 9 ratios.
- Suspension: Advanced Triplex suspension system on the front and rear axles.
- Special features: A fully functional "Ghost" mode, a tribute to the famous aviation squadron emblem that Koenigsegg uses on its hypercars.
Commercial model dimensions:
- Length: 59 cm
- Width: 28 cm
- Height: 15 cm
The new set promises dozens of hours of complex assembly and is a centerpiece for any car collection, being clear proof that the boundaries between toys and cutting-edge engineering are becoming thinner.
