Ford Bronco recalled for service: How to check if your car is affected
Ford has launched one of the largest service recalls of the year in the United States, affecting 565,691 vehicles. The decision comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that the electrical system in the engine compartment can deteriorate over time, posing a risk of causing a short circuit.
The recall affects certain Ford Bronco and Ford Bronco Raptor models produced between 2021 and 2026.
What is the technical risk and how is it remedied?
According to the official report published by NHTSA, a short circuit in the electrical system in the engine compartment can generate excessive heat or sparks, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Current Status: To date, Ford has not recorded any reports of accidents or injuries associated with this issue. The recall is strictly preventive in nature, aiming to eliminate the defect before operational safety is affected.
- Technical solution: The intervention is completely free and consists of installing an additional protective covering (protective sleeve and anti-abrasion tape) for the electrical wiring in the engine compartment, designed to prevent wear during use.
Is Romania also affected?
Although the NHTSA notification directly targets the United States market, the technical issue has a direct and indirect impact on cars on Romanian roads:
1. Vehicles imported directly from the USA (Grey Market)
A good part of the Ford Bronco models, and especially the high-performance Bronco Raptor versions present on Romanian roads, are directly imported from the American market.
Important: All US-spec vehicles produced between 2021 and 2026 are subject to the official recall (Ford recall code 26S55 / NHTSA 26V468). Owners are entitled to free repair at any Ford authorized dealership in Romania, as the manufacturer's safety recall campaigns have global coverage.
2. Models officially marketed through the Ford Romania network
Ford officially sells the Bronco model on the European market (including Romania) in Outer Banks and Badlands versions. Since all Bronco models sold globally are assembled in the same factory (Michigan Assembly Plant in the USA), there is a possibility that certain wiring parts are common.
If the recall is officially extended to the European market, safety notifications are transmitted through the European Rapid Alert System (Safety Gate / RAPEX), and owners who purchased the cars from local dealerships will be contacted directly by Ford Romania.
