The new Renault Captur LPG: 1.400 km on a single tank and more power for the Romanian market

The king of efficiency returns: The new Renault Captur ECO-G 120 debuts in Romania with record autonomy

At a time when fuel costs remain a major concern for drivers, Renault is making a strategic move in the Romanian market. The French manufacturer has officially announced the availability of the new Captur ECO-G 120, an improved version of the popular urban SUV, which promises not only savings at the pump, but also autonomy figures that put many diesel or electric models in the shade.

More power, same economic philosophy

The big news is the replacement of the old ECO-G 100 engine with the new 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. Although the architecture remains similar, technical optimizations have brought the power to 120 horsepower and a generous 200 Nm of torque (an increase of 30 Nm compared to the previous generation).

The result is felt directly on the road: the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is now achieved in 12 seconds, one second faster than before. Everything is managed by a 6-speed manual transmission, the only option available for this model.

1,400 kilometers without stopping

The most impressive figure in the technical data sheet is the total autonomy. By increasing the LPG tank by 25% (reaching a useful volume of 50 liters), the new Captur offers, in combination with the 48-liter gasoline tank, a range of up to 1,400 kilometers.

From a consumption point of view, the official figures are balanced:

  • LPG: from 7.2 l/100 km
  • Gasoline: from 5.9 l/100 km
  • CO2 emissions: from 118 g/km (in LPG mode)

Prices and amenities in Romania

The new model can already be ordered, with a starting price of 21,850 euros (including VAT) for the basic Evolution equipment. Those who want more comfort can opt for the Techno version, which starts at 23,950 euros.

In addition to the engine, the Captur 2025 brings improvements at the detail level: more aerodynamic exterior mirrors (borrowed from the new Clio), advanced safety systems (such as driver condition monitoring via integrated cameras) and the new Smart driving mode, which replaces the old "Perso" mode for automatic and more efficient management of the car's resources.

Market analysis: Who is causing problems for the new Captur?

Although Renault dominates the LPG segment in Europe, competition in Romania is tight, coming especially from within the group, but also from Asian brands.

1. Dacia Duster and Jogger ("Fratricide" Competition)

The biggest rival for the Captur remains the Dacia Duster. The new Duster ECO-G offers the same advantages of dual fuel, but in a more robust format and often at a more competitive price (starting at around 19,500 euros for similar engines). If the Captur relies on interior refinement, "soft-touch" materials and integrated Google technology, the Duster wins through space and higher ground clearance.

2. Hyundai Bayon and Kia Stonic

Korean brands are the only ones that still offer LPG versions (often installed locally or through authorized partners in certain markets). The Hyundai Bayon and Kia Stonic compete directly with the Captur in the B-segment SUV segment. Although their engines tend to be naturally aspirated (1.2 liters) and less lively than Renault's turbo, they offer extended warranties (5 and 7 years respectively) that attract cautious customers.

3. New Chinese SUVs (MG, BAIC)

The Romanian market is seeing an influx of models like the MG ZS. Although MG focuses on petrol and full-electric, their price-to-feature ratio is extremely aggressive. However, the lack of a factory LPG option remains a major disadvantage over the Captur for customers who drive a lot of kilometres annually.

Conclusion

The Renault Captur ECO-G 120 is positioned as a premium "middle ground" for those who want the economy of LPG, but are not willing to give up the quality finishes and the image of an established European brand. With a range of 1,400 km, it practically becomes the new "diesel" of the modern era - clean, economical and capable of very long roads.
