Dacia Spring, officially designated the most sustainable electric city car in Europe in 2025

Green NCAP: Dacia Spring, the most sustainable electric city car in Europe in 2025

Dacia Spring continues to dominate the affordable electric vehicle segment, reconfirming its status as an efficiency leader. Recently, the independent European body Green NCAP designated Dacia Spring as the most sustainable electric city car in Europe for 2025. The model achieved a rare performance, obtaining 5 sustainability stars and the maximum score of 100% in the rigorous assessments.

Maximum performance in key areas

The car tested by Green NCAP experts was the Extreme 65 version, equipped with the 65 horsepower engine and a 27.6 kWh battery. The results were impressive, with the Spring achieving a score of 10 out of 10 across all three major assessment criteria:

  • Clean Air Index: Thanks to its low weight of only 979 kilograms and its configuration with drum brakes on the rear axle, the Spring minimizes fine particle emissions from tire wear and the braking system.
  • Energy Efficiency: Tests in real conditions showed a mixed consumption of 15 kWh/100 km, while in short urban driving, efficiency increases spectacularly, reaching only 11.7 kWh/100 km.
  • Greenhouse Gases: Total life cycle emissions have been calculated at 90.4 grams CO2-eq./km. It is notable that over half of this value (approximately 50g) comes directly from the production process, underlining the low impact the car has during actual use.

Winter challenges and driving experience

Although it is an environmental champion, the Dacia Spring has not been exempt from criticism in the areas of comfort and intensive use. Green NCAP rated the driving experience as "Adequate", but winter performance was assessed as "poor". The lack of advanced thermal insulation and the use of a PTC heating system lead to a significant decrease in autonomy in low temperature conditions, with consumption rising to 24 kWh/100 km in cold start scenarios.

Commercial success: 20,000 units on the roads in Romania

The technical success is directly reflected in the sales figures. In February 2025, Dacia Spring reached the historic milestone of 20,000 units sold in Romania since its official launch four years ago. This model holds approximately 30% of the electric car market in our country, being preferred by both individuals and delivery or ride-sharing companies.

At the European level, Spring managed to surpass established models such as the Tesla Model 3 in popularity in the first months of 2025, demonstrating that affordability remains the main driver of the transition to electric mobility.

Prices and offers on the Romanian market in 2025/2026

Dacia has adopted an aggressive pricing strategy to keep the Spring at the top of Romanians' preferences. Currently, although the list price of the Dacia Spring Extreme 65 model is around 19,900 Euros (VAT included), promotional offers make the car much more attractive.

  • Promotional Price: Through various commercial campaigns, customers can purchase the model at prices starting from 12,900 Euros or 13,750 Euros, depending on stocks and features (such as the inclusion of the 30kW DC fast charging package).
  • Financing: Dacia offers credit packages with 0% interest, monthly installments of approximately 220-230 Euros and an extended warranty of up to 5 years, facilitating access for those who do not want to depend exclusively on government subsidies through the Rabla Plus Program.

Through this combination of record sustainability and an unbeatable price for its segment, Dacia Spring remains, in 2025 and 2026, the most logical choice for sustainable urban mobility in Europe.

Conclusion: Pragmatism as a form of sustainability

The recognition offered by Green NCAP in 2025 confirms a philosophy that Dacia has been committed to since the beginning: real sustainability does not come from complexity, but from efficiency and simplicity. In an automotive industry that is moving towards increasingly larger, heavier and more expensive electric vehicles, Dacia Spring proves that “less is more”.

Although it is not a car intended for long winter trips or speed performances, the Spring fulfills its mission with a rarely seen honesty. It is the ideal tool for the urban jungle, where its low weight and minimal consumption of resources — both in production and in running — make it more environmentally friendly than premium models three times more expensive.

The commercial success in Romania and Europe is clear proof that the public is ready for the electric transition, as long as it remains affordable. Dacia Spring is not only a leader in the ecological rankings; it is the symbol of a new era of democratized mobility, where responsibility towards the planet is no longer a luxury, but a logical choice and within everyone's reach.
