Czech Republic becomes a global pillar for Hyundai: 5 million vehicles rolled off the production lines

Hyundai reaches historic milestone of 5 million cars produced in the Czech Republic: A "Made in Nošovice" success story
Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) plant in Nošovice recently marked a turning point in its industrial history, celebrating the production of its 5,000,000th vehicle. This achievement underscores not only the brand’s success in Europe, but also the spectacular transformation of the production facility from a traditional center into a cutting-edge hub for electric mobility.
A special Tucson for a special customer
The 5,000,000th anniversary model is a Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, configured in the GO Czech N Line special edition. The symbolism of this moment was amplified by the unique way of handing over: the vehicle was personally handed over to a Czech customer directly from the assembly line.
Unlike a typical purchase, the happy owner had the rare opportunity to watch his car being born. Moreover, he symbolically participated in the final stages of assembly, personally mounting the steering wheel and applying the Hyundai emblem, transforming an industrial process into an unforgettable emotional experience.
Tucson and i30: Pillars of production in Nošovice
Since the factory's inauguration in 2008, two models have defined HMMC's path:
- Hyundai Tucson: It dominates the production lines, currently accounting for over 70% of total volume. The third generation (2015-2020) was a resounding success, with over 1.1 million units sold, and the current generation continues to be a European bestseller. Together, the two generations of the SUV represent almost half of the plant's entire history.
- Hyundai i30: The first model to roll out of the factory 16 years ago, the i30 is now in its third generation. With nearly 1.5 million units produced, this model remains a symbol of the brand's stability in the European market.
In addition, the plant has over time hosted the production of models such as the ix35, ix20 and even the Kia Venga, demonstrating remarkable flexibility of the assembly lines.
From Nošovice to the whole world
Although the Czech Republic is the "home" of this plant, its impact is global. Cars produced in Nošovice are exported to over 90 countries. Although Europe remains the main destination, Czech quality has reached distant markets in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and even Oceania. Production capacity has been constantly optimized, currently reaching a rate of around 350,000 vehicles per year.
The transition to "Green": Battery Hub and electric mobility
2020 marked the beginning of a new era for HMMC with the launch of electrified vehicle production. The Kona Electric made history as the first series-produced electric vehicle in the Czech Republic, paving the way for the more than 650,000 electrified vehicles produced to date.
A major strategic step was the industrial conversion of the facility. A hall that originally produced manual gearboxes was transformed by Hyundai Mobis into a modern assembly unit for electric vehicle batteries. This facility is essential for the future of the brand:
- Current capacity: 360,000 battery systems annually.
- Goal: Increase capacity to 450,000 units by June this year.
Sustainability and responsibility
Hyundai's success in the Czech Republic is not only measured in units produced. Since 2022, HMMC has become the group's first production facility to use 100% electricity from renewable sources (biogas, photovoltaics and wind energy).
With over 3,000 direct employees (of which over 93% are Czech citizens) and thousands of other jobs generated at suppliers, Hyundai has become a pillar of the local economy. The 5 million car milestone is not just a statistical figure, but a testament to how Korean innovation and European precision have created one of the most efficient automotive ecosystems in the world.
Hyundai in Romania: the leader of imported SUVs
- Market position: Hyundai consistently ranks in the Top 10 best-selling brands (6th place in 2025), often being the first choice of Romanians when it comes to import brands, after the national leader Dacia.
- The Tucson Bestseller: The Tucson model remains the undisputed "star", maintaining its title of the best-selling imported SUV in Romania thanks to its features-price ratio and 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.
- Electric offensive: The Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models positioned the brand as a technological leader, while the new Inster attacks the affordable electric car segment.
- Pricing strategy: The brand remains very competitive through the Rabla program, where cumulative discounts make models like the i20 or Kona extremely attractive to retail customers.
Indicative prices (2026):
| Model | Segment | Estimated Starting Price |
| Hyundai i20 | City Hatchback | ~€16,500 |
| Hyundai i30 | Compact Hatchback | ~€19,300 |
| Hyundai Tucson Hybrid | Compact SUV | ~€32,000 |
| Hyundai Inster | Electric City Car | ~€21,500 |
In short: In Romania, Hyundai has gone from being an "affordable alternative" to a volume leader, relying on proven reliability and a very extensive service network.
Conclusion: A future defined by record volumes and sustainable innovation
Reaching the 5 million unit milestone at the Nošovice plant is not only an impressive milestone in Hyundai’s history, but also a confirmation of the brand’s maturity in Europe. From the first i30 produced in 2008 to today’s anniversary Tucson Hybrid, the Czech plant has proven that it can combine industrial efficiency with a rapid transition to the electric age.
This production strength is directly reflected in markets such as Romania, where Hyundai has long since surpassed the status of a simple competitor, becoming a reference in the SUV and green mobility segment. The success of the Tucson model, supported by the solid infrastructure in the Czech Republic, underlines the South Koreans' winning recipe: cars adapted to European tastes, produced locally and equipped with cutting-edge technologies.
Looking ahead, the expansion of the battery assembly plant and the growing popularity of the electric range promise that the next millions of vehicles will not only be more numerous but also much more environmentally friendly, solidifying Hyundai's position as a leader in automotive transformation on the continent.
