The new Xpeng L03 SUV-coupe makes its global debut in Munich and comes to Romania
Shortly after its official entry into the Romanian market, Chinese manufacturer Xpeng is rapidly expanding its European portfolio. The Asian brand has published the first official images of its newest model, the Xpeng L03, a compact SUV-coupe that promises to redefine the affordable segment of electrified vehicles. The official global launch will take place on July 16, 2026, in Munich.
The model is part of the brand's new affordable series (known in its home market as Mona) and will be launched simultaneously in 64 global markets, including all European countries where the brand is already active — including Romania.
Design with supercar DNA and record aerodynamics
Aesthetically, the Xpeng L03 features a dynamic silhouette with a steeply sloping roofline, typical of a fastback. The visual project was directly coordinated by the global design team led by JuanMa López, current Vice President of the Xpeng Design Center, a name with weight in the industry thanks to his years spent at the head of the design departments at Ferrari.
Inspired by the fluid forms of nature, the L03 is distinguished by its T-shaped front headlights, semi-concealed handles and frameless rear-view mirrors. This obsessive attention to detail is not only aesthetic, but also functional: the car achieves a remarkable aerodynamic coefficient of 0.228 Cd. According to the brand's engineers, the aerodynamic optimizations add almost 60 km to the car's total range.
For customers on the Old Continent, the model will be configurable in 5 body colors:
- Purple Phantom
- Arctic White
- Midnight Black
- Grey Rock
- Silver Frost
Technical premiere: Dual-engine strategy (BEV and EREV)
The L03 measures 4,650 mm in length and has a generous 2,850 mm wheelbase (promising interior space comparable to SUVs in higher classes and a trunk of at least 539 liters). The big surprise, however, comes under the hood. The L03 becomes the first model in this range to adopt a dual propulsion strategy:
- Pure electric version (BEV): Equipped with a 183 kW (246 hp) electric motor on the rear axle and LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries supplied by CALB. It will be available in two capacity variants (56 kWh and 69 kWh), offering an estimated WLTP range of around 440 km. The 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in 6.6 seconds.
- Extended Range Version (EREV): A series hybrid that uses a 1.5-liter gasoline engine strictly as a generator to charge a 37.2 kWh battery. The pure electric variant in this case offers a range of around 300 km, but combined with a full tank of gasoline, the total range jumps to 1,000 km, completely eliminating the anxiety of charging stations.
Unlike its bigger brother G6, which uses an 800-volt architecture, the L03 relies on a more affordable 400-volt platform, while still offering DC fast charging speeds of up to 149 kW (10-80% charge in about 25-30 minutes).
Availability and estimated prices in Romania
In Romania, the Xpeng brand is officially represented through the partnership between AutoWallis and Salvador Caetano, with showrooms already open or in the process of opening in Bucharest, Constan?a, Ia?i, Bra?ov, Cluj-Napoca and Timi?oara.
Although official European price lists will be published on July 16, the positioning of the L03 model is designed to directly undermine competitors such as the BYD Atto 3 or Geely EX5.
- Estimated starting price: Considering that the Xpeng G6 model starts in Romania at €43,990, the new L03 — being clearly below it in terms of size and technological platform — is expected to have an extremely aggressive starting price, located in the range of €30,000 – €34,000 (before the application of possible Rabla Plus government subsidies). Top versions with a large battery or EREV system could reach around €38,000.
- Market availability: Pre-orders will open immediately after the Munich event on July 16, and the first physical deliveries to showrooms in Romania are estimated for the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027.
All final details regarding standard features, Tianji AIOS 6.0 support package and exact launch prices for the local market will be officially confirmed in less than a week.
