The electric era reaches campervans: Volkswagen officially launches the new ID. California Cruise
The German manufacturer is marking the beginning of a new chapter for the models that bear the legendary California name. Volkswagen has officially presented the new ID. California Cruise, the first fully electric California model in the history of the Wolfsburg-based brand. The new model combines decades of nomadic travel heritage with zero-emission mobility, bringing modern technical solutions tailored to nature lovers.
A campervan based on the ID. Buzz Pro architecture
The new ID. California Cruise is developed on the ID. Buzz Pro technical platform and is offered in two body configurations: short wheelbase (SWB) and long wheelbase (LWB).
In terms of exterior design, the model retains the fluid and retro-modern lines specific to the ID. Buzz range. The visual differences are discreet, represented by the new specific "California" logos and the set of dedicated stickers with the inscription "California Cruise". In the cabin, the front seats receive new upholstery, covered in a durable fabric with a design called Miwo.
Smart solutions for sleeping and continuous energy for 48 hours
Designed as a true campervan, the interior of the new ID. California Cruise is designed to maximize practical space. The rear bench seat can be quickly folded down to transform into a comfortable two-person bed, facilitated by a dedicated portable mattress. The sleeping surface is 9 centimeters thick, 2030 millimeters long and 1200 millimeters wide, providing optimal resting conditions while camping.
The standard outdoor-oriented equipment also includes:
- Two folding camping chairs and a compact table, easy to store in the dedicated compartments of the vehicle.
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function: Allows powering home appliances or external electronic equipment directly from the vehicle battery.
- Dedicated Camping Mode: An advanced energy management feature that allows the car’s high-voltage battery to continuously power the interior ambient lighting, USB charging ports and climate control system. This feature can remain active for up to 48 hours, ensuring thermal and energy comfort for passengers without the need to connect to an external power source.
Mechanically, the car benefits from the latest generation electric motors from the ID. Buzz Pro family, delivering a power of 286 HP (210 kW) in the rear-wheel drive version, later available in all-wheel drive versions.
