Wild and Uncompromising: Toyota Officially Launches the New GRMN Corolla

GAZOO Racing (GR) has officially revealed the 2026 GRMN Corolla, the ultimate expression of performance for track enthusiasts and the spiritual successor to the purebred race car. Developed under the mantra of “building better cars from motorsport”, this compact hot hatch was honed directly on the legendary Nürburgring circuit under the watchful and demanding eye of the brand’s chief driver, Akio Toyoda (known in the racing world as Morizo).

Born from Morizo's desire to bring to the forefront a Corolla that would truly captivate the public, the GRMN version takes the recipe of the standard GR Corolla model to an extreme level, offering a much more incisive dynamic behavior and a visceral connection between man and machine.

Performance Born on the Nürburgring and in Endurance Racing

To receive the exclusive GRMN badge, the car had to go through the “Green Hell” of the Nürburgring – a circuit that reveals any hidden weaknesses in a chassis. But development didn’t stop there; engineers also tested prototypes in the Super Taikyu Series endurance race in Japan, even using data collected from the experimental hydrogen-powered Corolla.

"If it bears the name GRMN, it must be able to run properly on the Nürburgring," was Morizo's clear directive to the engineering team.

The result? A car that responds to the driver's intentions to the millimeter, regardless of speed or the quality of the asphalt.

Competition Aerodynamics

All body elements have been redesigned to keep all four wheels glued to the ground when cornering at high speeds:

  • Air vents: The hood and flared fenders feature special ducts for airflow management and cooling.
  • Adjustable spoiler: The massive rear spoiler features a 5-step adjustment mechanism. Its angle was mechanically adjusted, degree by degree, during tests with professional pilots to find the ideal aerodynamic configuration.

Revised Chassis and Dynamics

  • Monotube suspension: The GRMN Corolla uses exclusive front/rear shock absorbers with rebound springs, tuned to the millimeter to ensure maximum stability over large vertical oscillations.
  • Steering and Traction: The Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system has been reprogrammed to provide consistent feedback even under extreme lateral G-forces. The 4WD system also optimizes torque distribution to the rear axle from the start of a turn.
  • Maximum grip: The car comes standard with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 high-performance tires.

More Couple and a Radical "Diet"

Under the hood, the engine benefits from lessons learned from extreme thermal stress in endurance racing. Maximum torque has been increased to 302 pound-feet, but the really important change is its delivery: engineers have optimized the mid-range rev range (4,000 - 4,600 rpm), precisely the critical area from which the car must burst out of corners.

To prevent power loss during long track-day sessions, the car comes equipped with a water spray system on the intercooler and an additional cold air duct.

If the dynamics got a plus, the weight got a severe minus. In the pursuit of wild energy, Toyota completely eliminated the rear seats. This drastic weight loss reduced the car's total mass by 66 pounds (about 30 kg) compared to the base model, significantly improving the power-to-weight ratio.

A Pilot-Focused Cockpit

The interior of the new GRMN Corolla forgoes everyday comfort in favor of track functionality. The atmosphere is dark, technical, and extremely focused:

  • Semi-bucket seats: Upholstered in Brin Naub synthetic leather and velvet in shades of black and red, they provide excellent lateral support.
  • Anti-glare trim: The dashboard and front pillars are padded with a flocked material, designed to absorb light and prevent annoying reflections in the windshield.
  • Exclusive details: On the passenger side, there is a carbon trim made by the Motomachi factory's special division, along with an insert bearing Morizo's official signature. The gearshift and door panels receive red anodized aluminum accents, and the center console houses the model's serial number plate.
