The new weapon in Stuttgart: Porsche officially reveals the new 911 GT4 R for the 2027 season

Porsche is preparing to redefine the standards of GT4 racing. The German manufacturer has officially presented the new Porsche 911 GT4 R, the competition model scheduled to debut on the circuits starting with the 2027 season. The new car will replace the current 718 Cayman GT4, marking a historic transition for this class to the legendary 911 platform.

Developed specifically to comply with the category's strict international regulations, the new model is based on the technical platform of its bigger brother, the Porsche 911 Cup, and promises to become the new benchmark in top championships such as the GT4 European Series or ADAC GT4 Germany.

Pure performance: GT3 DNA under the hood

The most important change is in the engine compartment. While the old Cayman was based on a mid-engine configuration, the new 911 GT4 R adopts the brand's classic architecture.

The heart of the car is a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated 6-cylinder boxer engine, derived directly from the one used in the 911 GT3 road car. The engine delivers outstanding raw performance for this class:

Maximum power: Up to 520 horsepower
    Maximum torque: 470 Nm
    Transmission: 6-speed sequential gearbox
    Drive: Rear (RWD)
Gear shifting: Ergonomic paddles mounted behind the steering wheel

Aerodynamics optimized according to regulations

GT4 regulations severely limit aggressive aerodynamic modifications to keep costs under control and ensure a fair balance of performance between teams. For this reason, the Porsche 911 GT4 R comes with a relatively modest but highly effective exterior aerodynamic package.

The centerpiece of the aerodynamic package is the oversized rear wing, which features a manual adjustment system in 11 different positions, allowing teams to quickly adapt the level of downforce depending on the configuration of each circuit.

A legacy hard to match

Porsche has been a dominant force in the GT4 universe since 2016. Over the past decade, the German manufacturer has delivered more than 1,500 examples of the Cayman GT4 family to customer teams and private drivers around the world, making this model one of the most successful competition vehicles in history.

The transition to the new 911 GT4 R represents a major gamble for the manufacturer. The first official examples will take to the track at the start of the 2027 season, at which point we will see whether the new model will quickly claim its crown as king of European and global circuits.
