Record in the 2026 Auto Junk Program: The budget for electric cars, exhausted in just 10 days
Romanians' appetite for green mobility has reached a new level. The funds allocated for the purchase of 100% electric vehicles through the Rabla Auto 2026 Program were fully exhausted just ten days after the launch of the registration session. The Administration of the Environmental Fund (AFM) announced that over 6,700 applications were submitted, fully covering the budget allocated to this component.
Rapid depletion for the zero-emission line
According to official data provided by the AFM, the ceiling of 120 million lei intended to support the purchase of electric vehicles was reached on July 30. In total, 6,724 files were registered, with a total value of 120.017 million lei.
The speed with which the budget was spent confirms the high interest and growing demand for clean vehicles. The Rabla program remains one of the main support instruments for renewing the national car fleet and reducing traffic emissions.
Registrations continue for hybrid and internal combustion engine cars
While the line for purely electric models has closed due to the depletion of funds, the registration session remains open for people who want to purchase a vehicle with a classic or hybrid engine.
To date, the situation in this category is as follows:
- 10,611 files filed, with a value of approximately 120.7 million lei.
- Remaining budget available: approximately 44 million lei for new requests.
Overall picture: Over 18,600 files across the program
Since the start of the 2026 Car Junk Program, a total of 18,628 files have been registered across all three components — electric vehicles, internal combustion/hybrid vehicles, and motorcycles.
The main objective of the program remains to reduce polluting emissions and stimulate the purchase of less polluting vehicles, by granting eco-tickets and scrapping bonuses.
What are the chances of those who did not get an electricity voucher?
For people who failed to submit their application in a timely manner, there is a possibility that new funds will become accessible during the year in two ways:
- Re-availability of amounts: Certain funds may become available again if some beneficiaries give up their reserved tickets or if the files are rejected in the validation process.
- Budget rectification: AFM representatives stated that a possible budget supplement could be analyzed in a future budget rectification, depending on the degree of utilization and performance of other programs run by the institution.
