BYD offers a new warranty for the Blade battery: 8 years or 250.000 km

250,000 km warranty for the Blade battery: BYD changes the rules of the game throughout Europe
The Chinese giant BYD (Build Your Dreams) has made an announcement that puts pressure on all major automakers on the continent: extending the warranty for the Blade battery to 8 years or 250,000 kilometers. This measure does not only target an isolated market, but is valid for the whole of Europe (European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom), offering an unprecedented safety standard for users of electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV).
A European warranty with automatic benefits
Unlike other promotional campaigns, this extension has several unique features:
Continental coverage: Whether the car is purchased in Romania, Germany or Spain, the warranty is the same.
Retroactive effect: Customers who already own a BYD model in Europe automatically benefit from the new conditions, at no additional cost.
State of Health (SoH): BYD guarantees that the battery will retain at least 70% of its capacity for the entire 250,000 km.
Who is BYD? From battery manufacturer to world leader
If a decade ago the name BYD was little known outside of Asia, today it is an industrial colossus. Founded in 1995 as a manufacturer of mobile phone batteries (including for Motorola and Nokia), the company has evolved into a technological giant that produces almost all of its car components itself.
In 2025, BYD confirmed its position as the global leader in the sale of electrified vehicles, surpassing Tesla in total volume. Their success is based on vertical integration and the innovation of the Blade (LFP) battery, which is considered one of the safest in the world, being able to pass the nail penetration test without catching fire.
BYD's debut and evolution in Romania
In Romania, BYD officially entered the first part of 2025. The strategy was an aggressive one, quickly opening points of sale in major cities (Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Ia?i) in partnership with established dealer networks such as ?iriac Auto or Proleasing.
Sales and impact: Although the Romanian market is still dominated by affordable models, BYD managed to quickly attract the "early adopter" audience and corporate fleets. In less than a year, the brand climbed to the top of preferences for Chinese cars, competing directly with MG for the supremacy of the segment.
Available models and prices in Romania (estimates with Rabla included):
| Model | Segment | Approx. Price (with Rabla) | Range (WLTP) |
| Dolphin Surf | City Hatchback | €19,400 | 340 - 427 km |
| Atto 2 | Compact SUV | €22,600 | 312 - 400 km |
| Seal U DM-i | PHEV SUV | €34,900 | 80 km (EV) / 1080 km total |
| Seal | Sports Sedan | €37,600 | 520 - 570 km |
| Sealion 7 | Performance SUV | €40,600 | 480 - 500 km |
Conclusion: Why does this step matter?
By extending the warranty to 250,000 km at the European level, BYD eliminates the biggest psychological obstacle for buyers: the fear that the battery will have to be replaced at their own expense after the standard warranty expires (which for most manufacturers stops at 160,000 km).
For the Romanian market, where cars tend to be kept for longer or resold after 4-5 years, this transferable warranty will maintain a much higher resale value, making BYD an extremely rational option from an economic point of view.
